I'd been trying to identify this pair of gorgeous ducks that decided to stop for a spell and perch on our barn. Quite frankly, I wasn't sure if they were ducks or geese. I am terrible at ornithology, so just identifying these as waterfowl should earn points for me.
Anyway, I have since learned that these are Black-bellied Whistling Ducks. They are found in southeast Texas, Louisiana and South America, are one of only two whistling-duck species native to North America, and they are delightful. I love living out here. You never know when a little bit of happy (and a little bit of knowledge) will land on your doorstep.
